At the end of April 2024, students aged 10 and over from AUskola had a fun-filled 'Get to know Auckland' trip. The children and their teachers gathered outside the Central Library building and from there they walked together to the Escape Masters escape room on Queen Street, the first stop on a long day. The escape rooms have been run successfully for many years by Lilla Bors and her husband Béla Tőzsér. Arriving at the chosen escape room for the morning programme, the group was divided into two smaller groups. As the location allowed the children to carry out the same mission in two different rooms, they were able to start solving the tasks at the same time and with the help of the teachers, they could start their escape. The theme of both rooms was bank robbery. It was great to watch the children working together and thinking about how they could escape. In the end it took about an hour for both groups to get out of the room.
The next stage of the day was a lunch outdoors, which everyone enjoyed - the weather was very good for outdoor activities that day! While everyone had a bite to eat, the children had to answer questions about Auckland and New Zealand in a fun quiz. Whoever got the right answer got a chocolate bar in return. The questions included how many volcanoes there are in Auckland, or one that asked which country/city they would end up in if they were to drill through the ground where they were standing at the moment. After everyone had enough to eat, the children's group headed down Queen Street. Around Aotea Square, they stumbled upon an event featuring circus props and toys, with all sorts of exciting games and challenges to try. Before the last stop, of course, there was ice cream to be had; on a sunny day like this, it would have been a shame to miss out! Finally, the day ended at the playground in Wynyard Quarter, where children and teachers played together until their parents arrived to collect them. The students and their teachers spent a very pleasant day together, perfect for team building and getting to know the city - we hope they will have many more such good experiences in the future!
